Buenos Aires P1 2025: Coello & Tapia Triumph as Galán’s Illness Forces Retirement
The 2025 Premier Padel season delivered another dramatic chapter in Buenos Aires, as fans witnessed elite padel action, emotional moments, and unexpected turns on the road to Rome. Here's a recap of the Buenos Aires P1 highlights, including Coello and Tapia’s victory, and a preview of the BNL Italy Major, the next big stop on the Premier Padel tour.
🏆 Coello & Tapia Crowned Champions in Buenos Aires
Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia, the current world No. 1 pair, secured another title in their dominant 2025 season. In the final, they faced Paquito Navarro and Lucas Bergamini, who had advanced under unusual circumstances.
The final score? A clean 6-2, 6-4 win for Coello and Tapia, who showcased their signature aggressive style and tactical brilliance throughout the match. Tapia, playing in front of his home crowd in Argentina, was particularly inspired, pulling off stunning volleys and aggressive overheads.
🤒 Galán’s Illness Ends Semifinal Early
One of the most talked-about moments of the tournament came during the semifinal between Galán/Chingotto and Navarro/Bergamini. After splitting the first two sets (6-4, 4-6), Ale Galán was forced to retire at 0-1 in the third set due to stomach problems.
Galán had appeared uncomfortable from the second set onward, and despite his efforts to continue, he ultimately couldn't go on. In an emotional message on Instagram, Galán wrote:
“Da rabia no poder competir por cuestiones físicas. Agradezco a todo el público y a mi equipo el cariño y el apoyo que me habéis dado. Nos habría encantado regalaros ese último set 🙏🏻🇦🇷”
"It hurts not to be able to compete due to physical issues. Thank you to the crowd and my team for all the love and support. We would have loved to give you that final set." 💬
The withdrawal ended a five-final streak for Galán and Chingotto and gave Bergamini his first-ever Premier Padel final.
✨ Standout Performers
- Paquito Navarro: The Spaniard looked sharp all week and proved he’s still a top contender. His leadership and energy helped lift Bergamini to his first final.
- Momo González & Jon Sanz: Although they lost in the semis to Coello/Tapia, their chemistry and consistent performance were impressive.
- Tapia: Once again proved why he’s one of the most creative and dynamic players on tour.
